Modern Mini's Main Panel Quilt

Posted on September 14 2015

Hello all of you Modern Mini fabric lovers! We don't know about you, but we fell in love with all of Lori Holt's little quote squares and we had to come up with the perfect quilt that would showcase each of them.

Here's how we did it:

Block 1

  • Trim a "quote" block into a 3.5" x 3.5" square.
  • Cut (2) 1.5" x 3.5" Strips in white (a)
  • Cut (2) 1.5" x 5.5" Strips in white (b)
  • Cut (2) 1.5" x 7.5" Strips in white (c)
  • Cut (2) 1.5" X 9.5" Strips in white (d)
  • Cut (24) 1.5" x 1.5" Squares using the non-quote squares from Lori Holt's Modern Mini Main Panel fabric and/or a variety of fabrics from the Modern Mini's collection. (e)

Sew the (a) strips to the left and right sides of the quote square.

Sew the (b) strips to the top and bottom of the quote square

Sew five of the (e) squares together

Repeat so you have two sets of 5e

Sew seven of the (e) squares together

Repeat so you have tow sets of 7e

Sew the (5e) strips to the left and right sides of the assembled (a) strips

Sew the (7e) strips to the top and bottom of the assembled (b) strips

Sew the (c) strips the the left and right sides of the assembled (5e) strips

Sew the (d) strips to the top and bottom of the assembled (7e) strips.

Voila! You have a beautiful block that showcases the darling Modern Mini Quote squares!

Be sure to press your seams in between each step. If your'e lucky to have a bored teenager around, you can enlist their help for this part and it goes really fast!

      • Cut (2) 1.5" x 5.5" Strips in white (b)
      • Cut (2) 1.5" x 7.5" Strips in white (c)
      • Cut (2) 1.5" x 9.5" Strips in white (d)
      • Cut (2) 1.5" x 5.5" Strips in Modern Mini's fabric (e)
      • Cut (2) 1.5" x 7.5" Strips in Modern Mini's fabric (f)

Sew the (a) strips to the left and right side of the 3.5" square

Sew the (f) strips to the top and bottom of the assembled (b) strips

Sew the (c) strips to the left and right sides of the (e) strips

Sew the (d) strips to the top and bottom of the (f) strips

Be sure to press your seams in between each step.

Voila! You have a beautiful complimentary block to the quote square block!

we chose to do our quilt using 36 blocks total, 18 of the quote square blocks and 18 of the complimentary blocks. We alternated them to create a 6 x 6 block quilt.

We then added a 4.5" border, using Modern Mini's Graph Paper in white

As soon as time allows we will quilt it and add a scrappy binding! The finished quilt size will be about 65" x 65".

We can't wait to see your variations! Please share them with us on Instagram and tag us @loulousfabricshop!

        Happy Sewing!
